This did not start out as a cover. When I first joined local comic publisher CCP Comics back in 2016, I wanted to do a pin-up for one of the titles, and I hose this book about a group that cleans up after super hero fights. Marvel tried their hands at the idea with DAMAGE CONTROL, and DC with the short-lived TV series POWERLESS. It’s an awesome concept that no one ever seems to be willing to stick with.
This particular take on the concept follows a clean-up team led by an ex-Super Villain picking up after the latest conflict. I took various characteristics and included them into the image: if he’s an ex-con, then he should have something showing a “prison sentence” so I included a bar code on his arm, one of the characters quotes Dimebag so he has a tattoo on his arm of the late guitarist. I also looked up things crews might use and added that to their attire. in all I took what was “handed” to me and ran with it.
I said this did not start out as a cover. When I sent it to the writer/letterer McClain McGuire, he liked it so much that he turned it into a convention exclusive variant.
This version is “discontinued”, although it does pop up from time to time at the CCP and/or Master of Villains table at conventions.
